In 1967, the
Great Northern announced a new corporate makeover to “Big Sky Blue.”
It was the 1960s and bright colors were “in.” To me “Blue” was more
interesting than NP “Black.” Even today, the debate continues among railfans
as to which railroad had the “best” paint schemes, Northern Pacific or Great
Northern. In any case, I became a Great Northern fan.
At first I wanted to record an image of every GN locomotive I could find for
but then as time marched on toward the Burlington Northern merger,
I felt the need to document everything Great Northern before it was gone.
So, there you
